Facilities        Back to Top
The downstairs to the nursery consists of an entrance porch, hall, and two play rooms. The first room is divided into two with a permanent divider and gate, this is our baby room for children up to the age of 2 and sleep room. There is another large room that can be used by children of all age groups which is also used as a dining area at meal times. There are two toilets, 2 wash hand basins and a nappy changing area to. Upstairs is a playroom for the children who are aged over two and a half. There is also a toilet and wash hand basin. The nursery kitchen is located upstairs where all the children's meals and snacks are prepared.

Kiddies Corner Day Nursery offers a wide range of activities indoors and outdoors to help develop your children's skills. Each age group has there own room, which is equipped with toys suitable for the age group.

The children have set daily activities, which are flexible. The planning for the under two's covers all areas of development.

The planning for the 2-5 year olds has a theme which changes aproximatly every six weeks. The theme reflects the current seasons and includes special occasions from a variety of cultures. There are six areas which the themed activities are divided into. These are language, literacy and communication skills, mathematical development, knowledge and understanding of the world, creative development, personal and social development and physical development. From September 2008 there will be an additional section- Knowledge of the Welsh language. Activities are planned per term. Topics are then broken down to half term segments and then again to weekly plans and ideas. There is always flexibility for change. Becky is the member of staff responsible for planning the children's activities.

The two year olds who miss out on attending part time school in the new school year because their birthday falls between September and December or January and March are entitled to take part in work from the foundation phase. This means the child will be covering similar curriculum and themes as those children who attend part time school and they are also entitled to a free half-day session per week.

Outside Play        Back to Top
The children who attend Kiddies Corner Day Nursery are able to enjoy outdoor activities on a daily basis (weather permitting). We have four sections to our out door area for the children to play in and explore. The main area is used for the outdoor cars and bikes or for the older children to have space to run around and play games. The outdoor classroom provides a safe place for the babies to play while enjoying the fresh air. The third area contains a climbing frame with slides and the last area contains a wooden playhouse and a toddler climbing frame. Having the outdoor area split up into sections means that the different age groups of children can enjoy outdoor play at the same time whilst still being kept safe in there own play areas.

Kiddies Corner is situated close to the westshore beach and park. The children often get the opportunity to go on outings with parental permission. During outings the staff : child ratio changes to 1:3 (for all age groups) to ensure the safety of the children.

Mealtimes        Back to Top
Meal times should be a happy occasion where children are able to develop new skills and experience new foods. Healthy eating can have an important influence on future health. Weekly menus are displayed in the nursery reception on the notice board. Any special diets can be catered for on request.

We receive information and courses through ‘Tiny Tums'. This is a scheme, which helps promote healthy eating for children. Since receiving information on diet and nutrition from ‘Tiny Tums' we have revised our menus to make them healthier for the children and Janette, who prepares all our meals and snacks has obtained a level two qualification in community food and nutrition skills
